Tyler Phelps

Assistant Dean of Advising, College of Arts & Sciences

Tyler’s primary responsibility as a four-year advisor in the College of Arts & Sciences is to provide individualized support to his undergraduate students. His academic journey (BA, MA, PhD) spans over three decades and has taken place at multiple college campuses.  Despite initially pursuing a career in higher education administration, Tyler opted to revisit his passion during the COVID-19 pandemic.  It was during this time of reflection that he chose to return to his professional roots in academic advising praxis and student success. His overall objective is to provide students with the necessary support and encouragement to achieve both their short- and long-term goals.  When he is not engaged in conversations with students and colleagues, Tyler spends his personal time relaxing with his family and dogs, researching the philosophy of kundalini yoga, listening to Grateful Dead archives, and exploring vegetarian recipes.
