Saurav Das arrived in the United States in 2017 to pursue his PhD at the University of Maryland, College Park. Upon completing his degree in 2023, he was awarded a two-year McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences (MCSS) postdoctoral fellowship during which he collaborates with Bhupal Dev.

His primary research focus lies in the field of dark matter, which is believed to exist in significantly greater quantities than visible matter. Yet, the exact nature of dark matter remains unknown.

Dark matter cannot be observed directly as it does not interact with electromagnetic radiation the way light does. However, its presence and distribution can be inferred by studying its gravitational effects on visible matter such as stars. Saurav's aim is to observe the smallest particles to gain a deeper understanding of dark matter.
