Christine Armistead was a founding member of the St. Louis Early Music Ensemble and has performed in numerous early music concerts and Baroque opera productions. In addition to serving on the voice faculty at Washington University for over twenty-five years, she runs a private voice studio that has included professional singers who sing on the international and national opera stage and voice faculty from other universities. For eighteen years she was a resident vocal instructor for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ renowned Artist-in-Training Program and currently is an advisor and instructor for the Union Avenue Opera Crescendo Program.
Christine Armistead holds a Master’s degree in vocal performance from Washington University and has taught singing for over twenty-five years in a private studio that has included professional singers and university voice and high school teachers. She also has been a diction coach and taught master classes for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis Artist-in-Training Program, Union Avenue Opera Crescendo Program, Missouri Women’s Chorus, Gateway Opera Company and others.
Ms. Armistead did extensive study in Baroque performance practice with Nicholas McGegan and was a founding member of the St. Louis Early Music Ensemble. She sang leading roles in Baroque operas, including Monteverdi’s Il ballo delle ingrate, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Handel’s Teseo and the internationally acclaimed production of Handel’s Orlando. Ms. Armistead has performed with Baroque Philharmonia, Tafelmusik, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and the Boston Early Music and Pepsico Early Music Festival orchestras. Ms. Armistead was soprano soloist for the Holy Roman Repertory Company radio concert series under the direction of Nicholas McGegan.
