Jazz at Holmes: The New Trio, Ptah Williams, William Lenihan, & Steve Davis

Throughout the semester, enjoy free live performances by noted local and regional jazz artists at Holmes Lounge in Ridgley Hall on the Danforth campus.  Parking can be accessed at the Danforth University Center (DUC) parking garage.

Biographies:

Ptah Williams has performed with Freddie Hubbard, George Benson, James Moody, and many other household names of jazz. He has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Chesterfield Wine and Jazz Festival, The Hermann Jazz Festival and many concerts and festivals throughout Europe.  The Riverfront Times said, "His style is unpredictable; when he performs, there's no way to anticipate the musical direction he might choose to take, and following the twists and turns of his solo runs can be as exciting as a roller coaster."

William Lenihan, guitarist, composer has performed with legendary bassist Ron Carter, Bob Brookmeyer, pianist great Marc Copland, Michael Brecker and numerous other iconic musicians in the jazz world over decades. In classical music, William concertizes on the classical guitar and mandolin performing with major symphony, opera and ballet orchestras in Europe and USA. As a studio and theatre guitarist, he recorded numerous film dates in Los Angeles, and performed with luminaries from the golden age of film, the Broadway stage and pop music including Julie Andrews, Bernadette Peters and countless others. He remains active on the European festival circuit with new creative efforts of  quartet recordings with Marc Copland, and bassist great Tony Grey.

Drummer Steve Davis has performed with David Liebman, Bill Evans, Richie Beirach, John Pattitucci, Walt Weiskopf, Benny Golson, Ira Sullivan and Lynne Arriale. He has over 165 recordings to his credit, including 10 of his own. Other recording credits include work with Walt Weiskopf, Conrad Herwig, Richie Beirach, Bill Evans, Kenny Werner, Tim Hagans, John Pattitucci, Manfredo Fest, and Andy LaVerne.

In addition to his extensive touring throughout Europe and North America, Steve served on the faculty of Jamey Aebersold Jazz Clinics from 1982-2010 and served on the faculty of the Berlin Conservatory of Music as professor of jazz studies in 2000 and 2001, as well as Port Townsend in 2007. He has written six drum books,including a newly released book(2008) from Schott-Music Publishing and has conducted educational clinics throughout the world.
