Cindy was born and raised in St. Louis, attended McCluer North HS in the Ferguson-Florissant school district (as a true St. Louisan, she says she has to say this), and completed a BFA in graphic design from Missouri State. More recently she has tutored in a north St. Louis City tutoring program for several years, reading with elementary school students as well as reading with and mentoring teen girls and helping them figure out what their path will be after high school.
She also travels to Honduras every other summer to work with an organization called Breaking Chains that serves inner-city teens in Tegucigalpa and builds houses for families in the rural mountain areas. She has been learning Spanish here at WashU to be able to communicate on her own with the people she serves in Honduras. Before coming to the College office, she worked in undergraduate admissions and financial aid for over nine years where she loved working with prospective and current students and their families, helping them navigate the financial aid process. Before that, she was the Marketing Director for Southern Bank in southeast Missouri. She has mentored WashU students through ACTS, one of the many campus ministries, and for many semesters she has eaten lunch weekly with a group of these students. She loves to spend time with her family and friends, play cards, travel, hike, kayak, knit, and letterpress print. At every available opportunity, she rides with the top down on her Jeep. Her family is working on visiting all 50 states and all of our national parks. Her husband, Kevin, and she are empty nesters – finally!
Cindy provides administrative support for Dean Jennifer Smith.
