Quantum advantage: entering a new era of how we see the world
Kater Murch, Washington University in St. Louis
In this overview talk I will cover some of the basic principles of quantum metrology, exploring how the unique properties of quantum mechanical systems such as superposition and entanglement can make measurements more sensitive and reduce noise. The talk will cover some of my group's work on frequency metrology, as well as discuss how quantum entanglement is currently being employed in the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) to see deeper into space. I will try to outline what I see as the most exciting areas where advances in quantum sensors have the potential to profoundly change science and engineering.
