Physics colloquium with Peter Reimann on Foundations of Statistical Mechanics In and Out of Equilibrium

Peter Reimann (Hosted by Seidel) from Universität Bielefeld will be presenting the colloquium "Foundations of Statistical Mechanics In and Out of Equilibrium"

The universal and irreversible tendency of closed systems towards thermal equilibrium is a well-established empirical fact in the macroscopic world, but in spite of more than a century of theoretical efforts, it has still not been satisfactorily reconciled with the basic laws of physics, which govern the microscopic world and which are fundamentally reversible. Here, some interesting new developments in the context of quantum many-body systems will be highlighted.
