Lesley Malin presents "Managing Shakespeare:  Text, Company, Playhouse"

In this two-part event Leslie Malin, LA '88 will talk about what it takes to manage a successful theatre; followed by a hands-on workshop which will delve into Shakespeare's text focusing on form, presentation, diction and delivery.

Shakespeare Acting Workshop

12:15 – 1:00 p.m.
This hands-on session will delve into Shakespeare’s text. Be prepared to work with Lesley on form, presentation, diction and delivery.  If you are able, come equipped with 12-14 lines from any Shakespeare play memorized.  Text will be provided for those who do not have time to memorize in advance.  Students who would simply prefer to observe are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Lesley Malin

Lesley Malin is a founder of The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company and has served as its Managing Director since 2003.  After seventeen years, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is the third largest theatre in Baltimore and the fifteenth largest Shakespeare theatre in America. She managed CSC’s building renovation of an 1886 bank into its award-winning modern Shakespeare playhouse as well as the associated $6.7 million capital campaign.  

Her acting credits at CSC include Lady Macbeth, Paulina in The Winter’s Tale, Lady Bracknell, Mrs. Fezziwig, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing Mrs. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, Anne Frank’s mother, the Queens in Richard III and Cymbeline, Titania, and Mrs. Hardcastle in She Stoops To Conquer; previously, she performed in New York.  

She has, for almost twenty years, been the vice president of the board of trustees of The Lark, a new play development center in New York City, where she once served as Managing

Director.  She served on the Executive Committee of the international Shakespeare Theatre Association for five years and organized its 2017 conference that was held in Baltimore.   

She is a 1988 graduate (magna cum laude in theatre and English) of Washington University in St. Louis, NYU’s Arts Management program, The LEADERship Baltimore, and Leadership Howard County.  

Her husband is a 1987 BSBA graduate of Olin Business School at Washington University and her son is a sophomore at Olin Business School.
