StanCon 2023, a four-day conference focusing on the popular platform for modeling Bayesian statistics, will take place on the WashU campus June 20-23. The conference should appeal to students, postdocs, and faculty in sociology, physics, biology, engineering, business, statistics, and data science, said conference organizer Debashis Mondal, associate professor of mathematics and statistics.
Previous StanCons, held at locations including Columbia University in New York and the University of Cambridge in England, have drawn hundreds of attendees from academia, industry, and government. “This is the first time that the conference will be held in the Midwest,” Mondal said. “We’re looking forward to connecting with statistics-minded people throughout the region.” He expects this year’s event will draw attendees from other regional universities as well as major companies.
The conference will include two days of tutorials with topics ranging from introductory to advanced levels and four plenary talks, including a presentation by Bayesian statistics expert Siddhartha Chib, the Harry C. Hartkopf Professor of Economics and Statistics at the Olin Business School.
Mondal anticipates that many attendees will have some familiarity with the Stan platform, but novices are also encouraged to attend. “A lot of researchers come to these events to network,” he said.
Mondal and co-organizers welcome proposals for talks, posters, and other contributions from WashU faculty, postdocs, and students. For more details, visit the event website.
