Science Research Roundup: April 2017

Barbara Kunkel, a professor in the Department of Biology, has been awarded $645,000 from the National Science Foundation in support of research on "Roles of Auxin During Pseudomonas syringae Pathogenesis."

Deanna Barch, professor and chair of the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, received $35,000 from the National Institutes of Health toward a project entitled "SchizConnect: Large-scale Schizophrenia Neuroimaging Data Mediation and Federation." 

Debbie Yee, a graduate student in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, received $30,000 from the National Institutes of Health for a research project entitled "Interactions of Motivational Incentives and Cognitive Control in Older Adult Decision-Making."

Richard Vierstra, the George and Charmaine Mallinckrodt Professor in the Department of Biology, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists.

Renee Thompson, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, was awarded $4,500 from the University of Melbourne in support of research on sexual objectification and emotion.

Adrienne Strong, a graduate student studying sociocultural anthropology in the Department of Anthropology, has been recognized with a 2017 Peter K. New Student Research Competition award from the Society for Applied Anthropology.

Emily Hanson, University Fellow in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, received $500 from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues toward a research project entitled "On the Ironic Effects of Being Empathic: Consequences for Attitude Polarization and Intergroup Conflict."
