Arts & Sciences welcomes new students

On Monday, Aug. 23, the College of Arts & Sciences welcomed 1,350 incoming students during the Deans' Welcome event. First-year students gathered in Graham Chapel to hear remarks from Dean Feng Sheng Hu and Vice Dean of Undergraduate Affairs Erin McGlothlin. In her remarks, McGlothlin invited students to think of their time at Washington University as an academic journey "that will transport you over the course of your undergraduate years to a completely new place. This moment marks the very first step in that journey, the point at which the adventure commences."

To signify the beginning of this journey, students were gifted journals, sunglasses, stickers, and ampersand-shaped pretzels. Students were also encouraged to document the beginning of their adventure by taking photos and writing postcards to their future selves.
