Works Cited

Your "Works Cited" page should contain the following information about each source used in your essay: (three examples)

1) source = an article from a journal. Give the author's name, last name first. Note that the title of the article is placed in quotation marks. Underline the journal title (or set it in italics). Give the volume number, the date of publication, and page numbers for the article.

Shane, Grahame. "Los Angeles Mutant Mall." SITES  25 (1993): 96-103.

2) source = a book--basic format. In addition to the author's name, give the book title and subtitle, underlined or in italics. Place a colon between title and subtitle). Give the city of publication, the publisher and the publication date.

Hayden, Dolores. The Power of Place: Urban Landscapes as Public History
          Cambridge: MIT Press, 1995.

3) source = a portion of a book reprinted in an anthology. Titles of chapters or articles within books are
placed in quotation marks. Underline the book title. In addition to the author of the article, give the editor of the book (Ed.), if there is one, the city of publication, publishing date, and page numbers for the article.

         The Post Modern Reader. Ed. Charles Jencks. London: Academy Editions, 1992. 
         277-298.

All your entries on your "Works Cited" page should be alphabetized, according to the last names of the authors of your sources. Here's what a brief "Works Cited" page might look like:
