BECOMING A WRITING CENTER TUTOR

Do you love writing, and are you interested in helping others during their writing process? The application for the peer tutor training seminar requires four steps:

  • First, find a professor who is familiar with your writing to nominate you for the position.
  • Second, fill out the accompanying form.
  • Third, submit two samples of your writing, preferably recent essays with your teacher's comments written on them.
  • Fourth, write comments on the student papers you will receive after you submit your application.

Submit the application and papers to Doreen Salli at Campus Box 1122 (the English Department in Duncker Hall).

The application form is attached, but you will have to come by The Writing Center, Eads Hall Room 111, to pick up the student papers.

If you would like to know more about what tutor training involves, here is the syllabus from last Fall's Theory and Practice of Tutoring Writing course, the course that prepares undergraduate students to be Writing Center tutors.
