THE
WEIDENBAUM CENTER is a non-profit, nonpartisan
research organization at Washington University in St.
Louis. Founded in 1975, it is recognized nationwide.
The Weidenbaum Center supports scholarly research in
the fields of economics, government and public policy.
It works closely with the Department of Economics, the
Department of Political Science, and other academic
units of Washington
University.
The Center’s public policy
efforts consist of a multifaceted program of research,
forums, retreats, publications, and online resources.
These programs reach a wide audience of influential
individuals in business, government, academia, and the
national media. They educate policy-makers, journalists
and the general public on policy issues at the intersection
of business and government.

U.S. Regulatory Spending
Expansion of Regulatory Budget and Staffing Continues in the New Administration: An Analysis of the U.S. Budget for Fiscal Years 2009 and
2010, an annual report on federal regulatory spending and staffing by the Weidenbaum Center’s Melinda Warren and Mercatus Center’s Veronique de Rugy tracks the expenditures of federal regulatory agencies and the staff needed to run these agencies. Federal regulatory agencies will spend $55.8 billion of U.S. taxpayers’ money in 2010, an inflation adjusted increase of 3.2 percent over the 2009 budget. In addition, the number of regulatory employees will increase 2.3 percent to 272,475 full-time equivalent employees.
