Eligibility
3.0 GPA. Four semesters of college-level Arabic prior to arrival in Egypt. Students must have achieved a B or higher in Arabic classes. Students must be enrolled in an Arabic course the semester prior to departure.

WU Credits
15-16 units per semester.

All course work is conducted in Arabic.

The second largest city in Egypt, Alexandria, known as "The Pearl of the Mediterranean", has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern.

Students in Middlebury’s School in the Middle East will take their courses at the Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL) Centre located on the Alexandria University campus, facing the Faculty of Arts. Alexandria University is one of the oldest, largest (over 200,000 students), and most prestigious public institutions in Egypt.

Housing
Students are housed with Egyptian student roommates in a renovated dormitory, in homestays, or in apartments.

Student Life
Middlebury College encourages all undergraduate students to take full advantage of their experience abroad by participating in learning experiences outside the classroom. Students are provided with opportunities for volunteer work and cultural activities to deepen their social immersion in Egyptian culture, enhance their language skills, and gain a better understanding of present-day Egypt. There are approximately 15-20 students on the program per semester.

The application process differs based on your department's approval of this program.

If this program is approved by your department you must submit a completed WU Semester/AY Study Abroad Application with program-specific forms to the Overseas Programs office in McMillan 138. If this program is not approved by your department, then you must meet with Jennifer White Reding before proceeding with your application.
