Application Instructions





  

The Mr. & Mrs. Spencer T. Olin Fellowship for Women

 

A complete application for the Olin Fellowship consists of the following:

  1. the one-page information form,
  2. a curriculum vitae,
  3. an essay,
  4. three letters of recommendation
  5. transcripts, and
  6. test scores, if your prospective program requires any.

     Please submit the information form, c.v., and essay together, whether by mail, courier, or email:

      The closing date for receiving all your application materials is February 1. Applications that are incomplete as of February 2 will not be considered. Please do not submit your application or any of its supporting documents by fax.

 

  • Your curriculum vitae should include at least the following information: (a) the names of all colleges and universities attended, together with dates of attendance, fields of study, and degrees received or expected; (b) academic honors or recognitions you have received; and (c) other activites (e.g., full-time, part-time, or summer employment; travel; volunteer work) related to the achievement of your academic and /or professional goals.
  • Your essay should discuss your reasons for undertaking advanced study in your chosen field, what you expect to derive personally from advanced study, and what contributions to society you hope to make during the pursuit of your career.  Essays should be typed, double-spaced and 750 - 1000 words.
  • Your recommendation may be submitted to us by your faculty in any of the ways listed above. Alternatively, you may ask us to obtain copies of the recommendations submitted on your behalf with your application for admission.  If those three letters are likely to be narrowly focused, we would welcome a foruth letter that would give us a fuller understanding of you and your vita.
  • Your transcripts may be submitted to us by all the colleges and universities you have attended in any of the ways listed above.  Alternatively, you may ask us to obtain copies of the transcripts submitted on your behalf with your application for admissions.
  • You may submit a copy of your test scores to our office in any of the ways listed above.  Alternatively, you may ask us to obtain copies of your test scores from the degree program to which you applied for admission.  Note: if your program of study does not require you to take any such national examination, then your Olin application does not require you to.

NOTE TO ALL APPLICANTS: DO NOT SUBMIT ADDITIONAL MATERIALS, SUCH AS ARTWORK, MUSIC, PAPERS, POSTERS, PUBLICATIONS, ETC. THEY WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED, NOR WILL THEY BE RETURNED TO YOU.

 

NOTE TO APPLICANTS FOR THE M.D.: YOU WILL BE INVITED TO APPLY FOR THE OLIN FELLOWSHIP AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL.

 

This application is intended for use by the Olin Fellowship Selection Committee; it is not an application for admission to Washington University.  If you have not yet received information about applying for admission, please contact the administrative office of the degree program in which you wish to study.
