Course Description

This is the first course in a series of two courses for the non-native English speaker who has basic fluency in the English language but who wants professional guidance to improve pronunciation accuracy. Specialized pronunciation instruction covers discourse-level and some word-level topics, providing controlled and communicative practice geared to enable student self-monitoring and skill-building. A select number of vowel and consonant problems common among the course participants will also be covered as time permits.

Materials (Required)
Grant, Linda. Well Said: Pronunciation for Clear Communication. Second edition. Boston: Heinle & Heinle, 2001. ISBN 0-8384-1237-8 (text/CD package)

Note: The campus bookstore will not provide refunds for text/CD packages that have been opened. If you have NOT already been advised by a member of the ELP faculty that ELP 101 is an appropriate class for you, you may want to wait until after the first class meeting before buying or opening the Well Said text/CD package. On the first day of class, a diagnostic assessment will be given to determine whether each student is appropriately placed in ELP 101. You will be notified about the result before the second class meeting.
