Writing Portfolio Eligibility Form

All students at Washington University must satisfy a first-year writing requirement; most do so by taking Writing 1: Writing Culture (L13 100). If you have not taken an equivalent course at your current university, you must take Writing 1: Writing Culture during your first year of study. If you have taken an equivalent course, you may be eligible to submit a Writing Portfolio, which will help us to determine whether or not you are required to take another writing course.

To find out whether you are eligible to submit a portfolio, complete and submit this form as soon as possible. This form must be submitted no later than July 31 (for fall-entry students) or January 1 (for spring-entry students); if we do not have your form by that date, you will be marked as ineligible to submit a portfolio and required to take Writing 1.

Once we have determined your portfolio eligibility, we will notify you by email. At that time, we will send you details about what to include in your portfolio, should you wish to submit one. Portfolios must be in the Writing 1 office no later than August 1 (for fall-entry) or January 10 (for spring-entry)
