The Path Towards Honors: A General Roadmap
- Make sure your GPA will be at least 3.5.
- Take the Junior Honors Seminar in the fall or spring (students abroad should consult the Director of Honors).
- Submit your application by the end of April.
- You should know by mid-June if your application has been successful.

- Select a thesis director and prepare a thesis proposal with their help.

- Complete four 400-level courses, at least one of which is pre-1700.
- Fall semester: select and revise two critical essays (at least one of which is from a 400-level class) in consultation with the original instructors.
- Write a brief essay (three to five pages) to describe and contextualize the papers.
- Submit drafts of the revised papers and brief essay to original instructors by mid-January.
- Consult with the Director of Honors about your examining committee of three by mid-February.
- Submit final papers (no shorter than fifteen pages each) with the preliminary essay and an outline of your coursework in English (course, instructor, grade) in three copies to the Academic Coordinator by the end of February.
- Take an oral exam with three faculty members in March.
- Enroll each semester for three units of L14 5001.
- Submit a complete draft of the thesis to your thesis director by mid-January.
- Consult with the Director of Honors about your examining committee of three by mid-February.
- Submit the completed thesis with an outline of your coursework in English (course, instructor, grade) in three copies to the Academic Coordinator by the end of February.
- Take an oral exam with three faculty members in March.
