Brief Course Description This writing-intensive course reviews and extends the
major macroeconomic models from a comparative perspective and uses these
models to analyze current macroeconomic and policy issues from different
points of view. The emphasis in spring
2009 will be on understanding the “Great Recession” that began in late
2007. We will explore various
perspectives on the cause of the crisis and evaluate the fiscal and monetary
policy responses. Students complete multiple writing assignments that
emphasize critical analysis of theoretical perspectives and readings applied
to current macroeconomic topics. Writing will be revised to improve logical
structure, clarity, and style.
Enrollment limited; priority given to senior economics majors.
