Application deadline for the EAS MA program is January 15.

EAS does not accept applications for spring matriculation.

Applying for Admission

All candidates must submit applications to the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at Washington University.

Candidates for admission to the joint-degree programs must also submit separate applications to the relevant professional school.

All candidates must submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.  Washington University's GRE code is 6929.  Use 2201 Area Studies for the department code.

Candidates for admission to the JD/MA program must also submit their scores on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) to the School of Law.  Candidates for admission to the MBA/MA program must also submit their scores to the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) to the Olin School of Business.

International students must submit their scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

All candidates must submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and/or graduate institutions attended. (submit to EAS)

All candidates must submit three letters of recommendation.  It is helpful if one letter is written by an individual with knowledge of the candidate's language skill. (submit to EAS)

Supplementary material: Applicants are encouraged to submit a short paper or an excerpt from a longer paper that was written for a course.  Or, provide an essay written in an academic style on a topic relevant to your field of interest.

In general, applicants are expected to have some background in East Asian Studies, including at least two years of language study, and well-developed writing skills.  However, applicants with special backgrounds and nontraditional training are also encouraged to apply.
