The following papers were written by Washington University students
enrolled in East Asian Studies 226: Japanese Civilization
Fall 2000 & 2001

For this essay (the second for the course) students were asked to write a report on any aspect of contemporary Japanese culture that was of interest to them.  Students selected topics on a wide variety of subjects: education, mass media, gender bias, pornography, abortion, reactions to the atomic bomb, the portrayal of Japan in American media, and so on. These reports, of 5-8 pages, were required to evidence reading in a least two outside sources.
