Travel Support
The New Chaucer Society actively encourages the full congress participation of senior graduate students and of those who gain their Ph.Ds between conferences (that is, in the case of Siena, doctorates awarded after July, 2008). We do our utmost to support full or partial travel and accommodation expenses for such participants. In the case of Swansea, the Society made travel grants to 21 applicants, after seeking recommendations from dissertation supervisors or advisers, and the Executive Director works with qualified applicants to ensure that all who are eligible have funding at a level that enables full congress participation. This involves looking at all sources of funding for individuals in order to ensure that available NCS funds are distributed fairly in order to meet the greatest need: we ask all applicants to canvas all sources of institutional and other support, and NCS will often make up shortfalls after such funding is granted. Eventual levels of support will depend on the Society's available funds and the number of eligible applicants, but we strongly encourage all members who are eligible to contact David Lawton (dalawton@artsci.wustl.edu) as soon as possible, and in any event by March 1, 2010.
