About CGFP

The Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship Program (CGFP) was established in 1991 for the purpose of providing strong encouragement as well as generous financial support to outstanding and diverse students interested in careers as college or university professors.

The Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship provides support for full-time study leading to the completion of the doctorate in most of Washington University's academic programs. Individuals interested in academic careers in the fields of Architecture, Art and Law are also eligible. This special fellowship package provides a full tuition scholarship plus an annual stipend and allowance in the amount of $26,000 for the 2007-2008 academic year. The Chancellor's Graduate Fellows meet on a regular basis for the purpose of developing and sustaining a tightly knit community of scholars. Program activities include, but are not limited to, an annual conference, regular social events, discussion meetings with faculty and guests on topics ranging from the research agenda of the discipline to realities of campus life for scholars, relationships with undergraduate Ervin Scholars and Mellon Fellows, and volunteer community service.

Gerald Early, Merle Kling Professor of Modern Letters and Director of Center for Humanities has had a continuous and close relationship with the Fellowship Program from its inception. Dr. Early provides important mentoring relationships to a number of current fellows.
