Glenn Stone's research has focused on biotechnology for the past 7 years, primarily genetically modified crops in developing countries. A central concern has been with effects bof technological change on indigenous knowledge (e.g., The Birth and Death of Traditional Knowledge: Paradoxical Effects of Biotechnology in India, 2007). Recent work has also concerned impacts of information technology (such as internet kiosks) on farmers. |
Peter Benson is currently completing a book on the US tobacco industry, much of which explores social meanings of smoking and relationships between tobacco capital, science, public health, and the state. He looks at how changing technologies of tobacco production related to consumer health issues impact tobacco farm businesses and farm laborers in the American South. |
