Geoff Childs is a demographic anthropologist who has has done extensive work on fertility, especially in Tibetan societies. Recent writing focuses on political, economic, and social factors that moderate fertility in pre-transitional populations, and on how these factors affect resource competition and attitudes toward illegitimacy..

Carolyn Sargent has studied impacts of state population policies on reproductive practices among West African migrants in France. She is especially interested in the linkages between Islam and fertility decisions among migrants from Mali. Her work illustrates how perceived high fertility among immigrants has generated debate over longstanding government pronatalism.
