Air photos from 1963 show the village of Ukwese with the red areas in cultivation and green areas in fallow or uncultivated. Between 1963 and 1972, Ukwese's cultivated area expanded in several directions, especially to the southwest. But during this same period, Ukwese's territory began to be encroached. A local Alago chief appropriated a tract of land just southeast of Ukwese village, and a small group of Kofyar settled along the southern edge of Ukwese's territory.

The final frame shows Ukwese's territory and landuse in 1972.
