klmowery@artsci.wustl.edu, 935-4448 The Pluralism, Politics and Religion Initiative (PPRI) presents a lecture by Laurent Mucchielli, director of the Center for Sociological Research on Law and Penal Institutions near Paris, studies crime and violence in France. His talk starts from the sudden rise in violence as a major topic in French public debates and a major collective fear. He brings together knowledge about crime in French society to discuss the evolution of violence in interpersonal relationships, the role played by courts and prisons, and problems of “ghettoization.” |
