Ke Nie teaches modern Chinese.

Ke Nie’s teaching focuses on creating direct Mandarin experiences for students. Contextualized conversation is the primary method she applies in her classroom. From beginner levels to advanced levels, students develop their language skills in conversations and experience Mandarin as a whole. She teaches Level 1 and Level 5 modern Chinese. During her years at WashU, she directed WashU’s Study Abroad Program at Shanghai for five summers where she also taught language courses at all levels.

Her research interests include pedagogy, the development of interdisciplinary curricula, teachers’ training, adult learning, and philosophizing teaching, learning, and language. She is currently experimenting with Improv games as a pedagogical tool in everyday classroom.

In 2016, she was honored with the Arts & Sciences' Distinguished Teaching Award.
