  • Summer School Film Series--Of Rivers and Jazz

    Tune in Tomorrow (1990) directed by Jon Amiel Martin works at the local radio station, which just hired a new scriptwriter with a reputation for great drama, Pedro Carmichael. Martin's aunt Julia, not related by blood, returns home after many years away and Martin falls for her. Once Pedro finds out about this romance, he starts incorporating details of it into the script of his daily drama series. Soon, Martin and Julia are not only hearing about their fictional selves over the radio, but about what they are going to do next. Starring Barbara Hershey, Keanu Reeves, Peter Falk. With music by Wynton Marsalis; Aaron Neville; and others. 107 minutes Rated “PG”

    The series features professional jazz musicians from St. Louis performing in a relaxed coffeehouse-style setting. Sponsors include the College of Arts & Sciences, the Department of Music and University College, both in Arts & Sciences, and Student Union.

    Pianist Curt Landes and the Vince Martin Quartet performing an urban mix of jazz and rhythm and blues. On July 26, Trumpeter Randy Holmes will lead his quartet in an evening of bebop and music of the 1960s. Vocalist Tony Viviano will join pianist Ptah Williams Aug. 2 for an evening emphasizing the music of Tony Bennett. The series concludes Aug. 9 with the Todd Mosby Group, which combines jazz with Indian fusion.

  • University College New Student Orientation

    The University College New Student Orientation will be held Thursday, August 23, 2007, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in January Hall, Room 110. Join University College advisors and staff who will help you get started with the basics--parking permits, E-mail accounts, computer labs, campus maps, student support, food services, and where to buy textbooks. You'll get survival tips from current students, and you'll hear from University College faculty about the ingredients for academic success.

    Join parents, faculty, and administrators at this memorable event as Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton welcomes all new students to the University. You will also hear from a faculty member and a student speaker. Each new student will receive two family member tickets for Field House seating. Additional seating will be available in the Athletic Complex's Recreation Gym for remote viewing.
