To: Eligible Graduate Students in Arts and Sciences on the Danforth Campus
From: Richard J. Smith, Dean, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
Re: Student Health Fee and Graduate School Subsidy

I am pleased to announce the continuation of our health benefits for full-time students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In 2008-2009, full-time graduate students will again be eligible for medical and wellness services and health insurance covered by the student health fee. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences will subsidize the health fee for most of its students; students eligible for the subsidy will pay approximately nine percent of the fee. Participation is mandatory for full-time students.

STUDENT HEALTH COVERAGE ELIGIBILITY

COVERED WITH SUBSIDY

Graduate Arts and Sciences students on the Danforth Campus are covered by
the student health fee and eligible for the health fee subsidy under any
of the following conditions:

1. Full-time graduate students registered for 9 or more credit hours per semester

2. Students registered for 1-8 credit hours plus the continuing student fee

3. Students registered only for the continuing student fee who are fully supported by an assistantship or a fellowship, whether from the University or from an external source

COVERED BUT NOT SUBSIDIZED

Graduate Arts and Sciences students on the Danforth Campus are required to participate in the student health plan but are not eligible for the health fee subsidy if they are registered only for the continuing student fee and are not fully supported by an assistantship or fellowship, either from the University or from an external source.

NOT ELIGIBLE FOR HEALTH COVERAGE

Part-time graduate students, defined as either:

1. Students registered for 1-8 credit hours without the continuing student
fee

2. Students registered only for the non-resident candidate's fee

COST

Health Fee $686 per year ($343.00 per semester)

Domestic students receive a subsidy of $626 per year ($313 per semester) and will owe the remaining $30 per semester.

The first semester charge will appear on a statement generated by Student Accounting at the end of September 2008.

ATTENTION INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences subsidizes the health fee for eligible international students to the same extent as for eligible domestic students but due to additional insurance requirements (IMED) for international students, they will owe an additional $15 per semester (a total of $45 per semester).

ATTENTION ENGINEERING STUDENTS: Ph.D. students in Engineering will not be covered under the Arts & Sciences subsidy but will normally receive subsidized insurance through the School of Engineering. The contact for this is Jessie Runiewicz, 935-6183 or jruniewicz@wustl.edu.

ATTENTION SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS: Ph.D. students in Social Work will not be covered under the Arts & Sciences subsidy but will normally receive the same subsidy benefit through the School of Social Work. The contact for this is Lucinda Cobb, 935-6605 or lucindacobb@wustl.edu.

ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES

Nothing is required to enroll for the student health fee or to receive the Graduate School health fee subsidy. Once your academic registration as a full-time student is complete, enrollment in the health fee is automatic and the subsidy will be applied to your student account.

Please note that the purchase of optional insurance plans (for dependents or prescription drugs) or discount programs (for dental and vision expenses) must be made separately. Visit the Student Health Services website at shs.wustl.edu for more information; enrollment in these options
is not automatic, although full-time registration and individual enrollment in the health plan is a prerequisite.

Registration for Fall 2008 must be completed by the end of the add/drop period, September 11, 2008, to be eligible for the health insurance benefits effective on August 15, 2008. Coverage begins
on the
registration date when registering on or after September 11.
