Washington University announces the sixth year of an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Program designed to encourage interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching across the humanities and social sciences. Beginning in September of 2001 the Fellowship Program has brought to Washington University new and recent Ph.D.s who wish to strengthen their own advanced training and to participate in the university's ongoing interdisciplinary programs and seminars. The Postdoctoral Fellows receive two-year appointments with stipends; for the 2006-07 academic year the annual stipend will be $40,700. Fellows will outline a plan for their own continuing research to be pursued with a senior faculty mentor from Washington University. Over the course of their two-year appointment, fellows will teach three undergraduate courses and collaborate during a spring term in leading a seminar in the theory and methods of interdisciplinary research.
There is no application form; applicants should submit a cover letter, a description of their research program (no more than three single-spaced pages), a brief proposal for the seminar in theory and methods, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation. All materials must be submitted in paper copy.

Submit materials by December 1, 2006, to
