- The Department is very happy to announce three new faculty appointments:
Roy Sorensen (Dartmouth) and Julia Driver (Dartmouth) will join us in Fall 2008.
Frederick Eberhardt (UC Berkeley) will join us in Spring 09.
- Naturalism, Reference and Ontology: Essays in Honor of Roger F. Gibson published in July by past graduate student, Chase Wrenn, Ph.D.2001. Roger is a Professor of Philosophy, and was chair of the Philosophy Department (1989-1999). Chase is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Alabama, where he is also director of the undergraduate Mind and Brain program.

The Philosophy department offers a major and a minor at the undergraduate level. In addition, the department has a graduate program offering a Masters and Ph.D. The Philosophy department houses the PNP (Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology) Program at both the graduate and undergraduate level. The department's research strengths lie in the following areas:
- Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, and Philosophy of Law
- Philosophy of Mind / Psychology / Cognitive Science
- History of Philosophy
The department is particularly receptive to interdisciplinary work. Among the special opportunities available to students in the Philosophy department are the following:
- Undergraduate Major in Philosophy or
Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology
(PNP)
- Undergraduate Minor in Philosophy, PNP or History and Philosophy of Science (HPS)
- Masters and Ph.D in Philosophy or PNP
- Graduate certificate in Women's studies.
