Accessing News Transcripts from Lexis-Nexis
In order to access transcripts from Lexis-Nexis,
you must be at a Washington University computer; Lexis-Nexis is not a free
service, but WU subscribes to it.
- Go to http://web.lexis-nexis.com/universe
or follow this path from the Washington University Libraries web site:
Home
> Full-Text Sources
> Lexis-Nexis Academic
(under "Newspapers").
- On the Lexis-Nexis page, click on the "Guided News Search"
tab.
- In "News Category," select "News Transcripts."
- In "News Source," select the network or program (e.g.,
CNBC News, CNN, National Public Radio, etc.) which broadcast the news story
you are looking for or select "All transcripts."
- As search terms, enter a couple of key phrases from the
topic of the news story. Entering the reporter's name, if you know it, can
also help find the story that you want. For the drop-down menus on the right,
keep in mind that selecting "full text" will search the entire transcript
for your terms and will probably return more results, while selecting "Headline,
Lead Paragraph(s), Terms" will probably return fewer results.
- You may narrow your search if you wish by selecting a
time frame and/or more specific news source.
- Hit "Search"--good luck!
