Women in the Kofyar homeland, Plateau State Nigeria, photographed by Prof. Glenn Stone.
The
women on the left is blind and is led by the young girl. The woman on the right still
actively farms although she is over 80 years old. They are returning from one
of the celebrations that have played a key role in keeping Kofyar
homeland villages from dying, as much of the population has left to enter
cash-cropping. Based on research reported in: Glenn Davis Stone (1998) Keeping the Home Fires Burning: The Changed Nature of Householding in the Kofyar Homeland. Human Ecology 26:239-265. Click here for pdf (3.3 mb) |
